Most people would like better health. This post is for people willing to work on their lifestyle to achieve optimal health. I do not believe there is a pill that can sort out all health problems. I believe that a healthy diet, exercise and homoeopathy can work together to help you improve your health.

Healthy diet

Eating less sugar, processed food, alcohol, and red meat and consuming more plant-based foods is, in a nutshell, what we are aiming for. An anti-inflammatory diet favours fruits and vegetables, foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, whole grains, lean protein, healthy fats, and spices. Buy organic food as much as possible and locally produce in-season fruit and vegetables. Eat fermented foods, which are a source of probiotics and improve our gut health and add some prebiotic foods that feed the good bacteria in the Gut. Probiotics are in foods such as yoghurt, kefir, kimchy, kombucha and sauerkraut. Prebiotics are in whole grains, bananas, greens, onions, garlic, soybeans and artichokes. Fermenting your own kefir, kombucha, or kimchi is easy, and many recipes are available online. I am doing it at home, so it is not complicated.   The Mediterranean diet is often given as an example of an anti-inflammatory diet.

Intermittent fasting as a way of eating has many health benefits and helps the body repair and detox. Intermittent fasting means that you don’t eat for a period of time each day or week. Some popular approaches to intermittent fasting include:

  • Alternate-day fasting. Eat a normal diet one day and either completely fast or have one small meal (less than 500 calories) the next day.
  • 5:2 fasting. Eat a normal diet five days a week and fast two days a week.
  • Daily time-restricted fasting. Eat normally but only within an eight-hour window each day.

Water and zero-calorie beverages such as black coffee and tea are permitted when you’re not eating. Your food during the allowed window period must be healthy and nutritious. Snacking between meals is to be avoided. People usually adapt to this eating after a month. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have type 1 diabetes, Intermittent fasting is not for you. If you have chronic health issues, please check with your GP before dieting.

I know it isn’t easy and will not be everyone’s cup of tea. Ultimately, we can only do what we are ready to do and how far we go is up to everyone individually.

Exercising

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. There are many forms of exercise, and they all have some benefits. Long walks in nature, swimming, running, dancing, cycling, yoga, pilates, etc. Find something you like doing and start moving. Our life has become more sedentary, and this is affecting our health.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy works with the body and can help you regain balance. It can improve your health. It does not have side effects, and you will not be taking remedies for life. It is very individual what treatment someone needs and for how long. Ideally, one will work with a homoeopath to improve their overall health constitutionally and address their health issues. Homoeopathy does not treat the disease but the person; depending on the symptoms, the treatment is individualised. I use Ton Jansen’s human chemistry method in most cases as it helps to get good results faster.

Doing all these things gives you the best chance of living healthier. How far you will go is up to you, but every effort will have some benefit.

Reduce the stress. Stress is a factor that can lead to many health problems. Try to reduce stress by controlling how you react to things that stress you out. Choose carefully what battles to fight and when to walk away.

Self-care. Find time to do things for yourself that make you happy. It can be anything from going to the beach, having coffee with a friend, or reading a book. We are always busy and forget that life is not just about work and buying things we want.

Sleep 7-8 hours a day. We need sleep, as this is when our body heals itself. I know many people are too busy with things and find sleeping is a waste of time, but this is not true. We all need a good night’s sleep to be in good health.
