I am astonished to see how widespread Candida’s overgrowth is. If you are reading this blog, you probably have noticed this as well. In this post, I will outline the causes and discuss my approach to treating Candida with homeopathy.
What causes Candida overgrowth?
There are many causes, and for most of us, it is a combination of at least a few of the factors listed below. In my experience, everyone I have seen with Candida overgrowth has high sugar consumption or has had it for many years and stopped in an attempt to improve health.
- High sugar intake.
What is the recommended daily sugar intake? 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day, according to the World Health Organisation. According to the NHS website, Adults should have no more than 30g of free sugars daily. The average intake is 76.7 grams daily, equaling 19 teaspoons or 306 calories. Sugar feeds candida, so it is compulsory to be on a sugar-free diet while dealing with overgrowth. I know this is difficult, as I have been a sugar addict for most of my life. When working with homeopath you can get remedies to help with sugar cravings, like sacrum Officinalis, different Milk remedies and GHB.
Other factors leading to Candida overgrowth are:
- Overuse of antibiotics
- Birth control pill
- Heavy metals
- Mould exposure
- Environmental toxins
These are the main causes of Candida, but there can be others as well. When I work with a client, we go through their timeline, see what was happening in their life when the problem started, and see what medications the person is having at present and in the past. What is he doing for a living? What is his environment? The treatment results from collaborative detective work, where we decide which factors led to candida. I start with homoeopathic detox courses using the Human chemistry method of Ton Jansen. Balancing courses is another useful tool to help get the gut in optimal health. During the treatment, sometimes supplements are advisable, and this depends on the case. All clients are advised on a healthy diet. The treatment is done over a period of time, and I usually see one client 3-4 times before their problem is resolved. It is a health journey. The problem they usually had for years is deeply rooted and often spread from the Gut to other systems.
I find it incredibly rewarding when helping clients who had candida for many years to get their life back on track.
